Luon Cave: Exploring Ha Long Bay's Enchanting Water Tunnel

Among the countless natural wonders scattered across Vietnam's UNESCO-listed Ha Long Bay, Luon Cave (Hang Luồn) stands as a truly unique attraction. Unlike traditional caverns that invite visitors to walk through their chambers, Luon Cave offers something different a water tunnel journey leading to a secluded lagoon embraced by towering limestone mountains. This distinctive formation has made it one of the most captivating destinations in Ha Long Bay, drawing adventure seekers and nature enthusiasts from around the globe.

What Makes Luon Cave Special?
The name "Luồn" means "tunnel" in Vietnamese-an apt description of the cave's defining feature. As you approach by boat, you'll see a striking limestone arch about 100 meters tall, leading to a tunnel 60-100 meters long, 4 meters wide, and up to 4 meters high, depending on the tide.

Beyond this passage lies a hidden gem: a peaceful, emerald-green lagoon around one square kilometer in size, surrounded by towering limestone cliffs and lush greenery. Shielded from the open sea, it offers a calm, secluded retreat.
Because the tunnel is too small for large boats, access is limited to kayaks and bamboo boats-helping preserve the lagoon's untouched beauty and offering a more personal, immersive experience.
Location and Accessibility
Luon Cave is strategically situated on Bo Hon Island in the southern part of Ha Long Bay, Quang Ninh Province. It's located in the northeastern part of the island, approximately one kilometer from the famous Sung Sot Cave (Surprise Cave). The cave lies about 14 kilometers from Bai Chay Tourist Wharf and around 13 kilometers from Tuan Chau Tourist Port.
